Wow, this is so simple! I need to get a boom arm like that. It also seems like that umbrella might be lighter weight?

Yes, It's quite easy to set it up like this.
I made sure that the leg on the light stand pointed at Magnus so it wouldn't fall on him.

The Manfrotto Nano 5001b is a neat light stand. Very low weight and small form factor makes it a boom as well. Just don't overload it.

The umbrella actually have average weight.

Additional Notes

I made the setup with one Manfrotto Nano 5001b clamped down with one Superclamp at the other light stand. As counter weight I used the Quantum Turbo 2x2.
I lit the scene with one Speedlite 580 EX II at full power triggered with Pocket Wizards.
At the lower end of the picture I put the white reflector to bounce some light up at Magnus, that acted as my model.
